DIY OVERFLOW HELP

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Went on, flows nice but not the 700ish gph I need. Prob around 450-500. Will this ball valve hurt my pump? Is there anyway I can get more flow from the 1.25" pvc?

i had a feeling didnt i lol
sux it doesnt flow what you wanted
but a new one isnt to much
make a matching one for the other side of the tank
or make a new 2" one
not sure if 1.5" would work

valve on pump, some say good some say bad
i redirect a lil flow back into my sump with a t and a valve
but others say you can just valve the return

I just don't want to burn the impeller up. I am going to make a 2" one this Saturday, I also have to fish up some stuff like a drip tray, lids, and a better return!

I looked at everything, mainly yours. I used egg crate and I just have both filer floss and scrubbies on it. I just need a drip plate now I bought acrylic. The return is just a 3/4" tube to 1" pvc with a ball valve. I want to clean up the setup as well. I did little pieces of pvc like you but I painted black, you can barely see it.

If the tee is not at the bottom of the outside of the tank (inside loop would also be at the bottom) then you can still get some more water flow out of it.

The ball valve will not harm your pump or impeller.

It is a weird concept, but restricting the flow will actually cause the pump to less work and draw less current.

The TEE is even with the inside loop! it does not reach the bottom of the tank though. Depends what time I wake today, maybe I will do the 2" today..

How close to the bottom? Is it closer to the middle or is it closer to the bottom?

yep just valve the return. I just lost an arguement with JohnPTC about this, it actually draws less current and adds hours to your pump as CHOMPERS stated.
