DIY Plywood

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That is one good looking tank! The plants make it. How long have you had it up and running? Drylock is what the fish guy used originally I think.

John, I had the same dilema. Originally purchased the acrylic with the intention to build an all acrylic tank, then I remembered how difficult it can be to join panels over 8 FT in length so I decided to build the tank like the fish guys using 2 acrylic panels. This way for the same cost in acrylic I can build a tank twice as long. Just my 2 cents worth.

Its been up since January. TFG used drylok also, although I have no seems. His tank is 14 foot long, so he had a silicone seem in the middle that sprung a leak after he was walking around inside it.

Hi,
I'm having great difficulty though in finding what I need to waterproof it.
Chris

Marine Epoxy should be readily available in the UK. I would contact this company:

http://www.epoxy-resins.co.uk/

Also, I once did a search on foam and epoxy and actually found a UK site on building your own surfboards. They discussed sources of epoxy in the UK and I'm sure you can get one safe for aquarium use as well as resistance to saltwater.

Welcome to the forum. I have been a lurker off and on and decided to register after seeing the trouble you were having and remembered that UK site on DIY surfboards. I tried to find that site through google but was unable to.

havent been on this site for awhile just seen this post ive built alot of plywood tanks both for fresh and marine fibreglass and epoxyresin is the way ihave always done it tanks i built 18 years ago are still going strong its 100% waterproof and safe for marines my local suppler will mix in colour so you can have black blue or any colour you like premixed in to the epoxy if you use polyester resin you have to panit it with epoxy paint to make it waterproof and safe for marines

Ames Research (makers of Blue Max) told me that silicone would not adhere to Blue Max. How is everyone adhering their glass to Blue Max???
