DIY pvc overflow question/concern

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ah yes you're right my bad I thought they had one in the 2000 range ... Ya looks like the eshopps 1800 is the biggest tho.... Would I be off better getting that overflow box then the dual 1" pvc drains I have made ? They take less space and I'm gonna guess they drain more gph as well....

The return pump iam using is made by rc electrical RS-753a max head 7m 210watts 170l/m and this is rated at 2m as it says on the pump if anyone can find anything online about these pumps please post it :)

ah damn noticed the 1800 model has 1.5" outlets and the 1200 has 1" I have extra 1" pipe here is it dumb to go with the 1800 then put a 1" adapter on it ? or just go with say the 1200 since I already have 1" pvc pipe here....

Well it either the 1800 and I buy 2 of the eshopps 4ft flex hoses they have for drains and use the 1" pipe for my return OR get the 1200 and use the pvc pipe I have here already for the drains and return....I'm trying to keep cost at the very least as possble at this moment..

IMO you'd be much happier returning that and getting the 1-1/2" PVC pipe and fittings.

Well the pvc pipes and etc I have are the setup I bought from a buddy that had the dual 1" overflows in his tank but they don't exactly work and fit my application really, and hence the thought of the eshopps overflow

what do you guys have that attach to the bulkheads of the overflow boxes ? do you just have a standard sch40 threaded coupling into a pipe ? and you have a pic by chance you could post

I understand trying to keep costs down however there is no point in getting the larger overflow then restricting your PVC down to 1". PVC is what, $3 for 10'? I know the fittings are a bit more expensive but you shouldn't have any valves on your overflow anyway. It will cost you less in the long run to do it correctly the first time than it would to try and make something work and replace it down the road.

I use slip fittings for my bulkheads. Although I have only used one external overflow box before, I didn't think they used bulkheads? I was under the impression the flex hoses slip into the overflows and attach somehow? If you are using a bulkhead I would go the slip route and glue it in.
