DIY stand height?

From what you've been describing with you floor i would build a separate base/platform to set the stand on. A base made from 4x4s run horizontally and shimmed properly topped with 1/2" plywood. This will prevent you from having to build a stand with custom uneven legs which would be unusable if you move the stand.

Styrofoam is only needed on unframed glass tanks. If your tank has a plastic frame that elevates the bottom glass, no styrofoam in needed. If you tank is made of a solid plate of glass sitting upon the stand, then the styrofoam is recommended.

What about if I just built a stand out of 2x2 hss steel. Then the stand could just span the little gap I assume. Then I could just skin the steel in wood to make it look nice.

You still have to shimm the bottom of the stand to make it level. I would go ahead and shimm any gaps also.

Yeah, I would. My point was that I wouldnt have to worry about it sagging in the middle like I would with a wood stand.

Properly built, a wood stand will not sag

I agree, but given my situation, and the fact that I will lose a lot of width inside the stand for a wet/dry, I think I may be better off with a steel stand. Mostly I am thinking that steel will be better so I can have more room inside the stand.

did you get my pm bro

Im out in the northwest. I got your pm, I meant to get back to you but forgot lol. It was actually your post that made me realize that I am not going to have much room inside the stand for a wet/dry, and the tank is already drilled with built in overflows.

I am thinking of just doing something like this now-

If you use 2x6's for the top rails of the stand, you could eliminate the center leg and won't have to worry about the dip in the floor.
