DIY sump and overflow build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just saying it might not hold forever... something about different types of sealant. Ii don't know tbh so I hope it works well. Are you going to put in a bubble trap?

When I said hard I didn't mean user hard... just properties of materials not working easily.

Well i read some reviews that this paint is fine so i will go with it i guess.

What is meant by a bubble trap?

I used this paint on some painted PVC with no issues submerged. I also use a few of those baskets to hold filter media into my sump on my holding tanks. Good luck.

Thanks, i kinda ran into a wall right now since i didnt check that the 10 gallon would fit under the stand... and it doesnt.

I will probably just have it next to the tank and do the overflows on the left hand side of the tank, with the spray bar on the back left where my AC 110 currently sits

I got the basics down already and am doing a dry run now and everything seems to be working fine. Im using an AC70 powerhead as a pump atm and its working pretty darn good.

I am probably going to paint the PVC in a big and i am not sure wether to use the acrylic or not.

I was thinking this.... Having the pvc drain into some bio balls which the bottom 4" or so would be submerged and then having a sponge filter at the intake of my pump. I would like something for mechanical maybe to go into the Wet/dry section, or maybe a filter sock?

What would you guys recommend?

I will just put this here for me as a mental note lol...

Things to do:
Paint PVC
Adjust Lid of sump and PVC to go into lid needs extension.
Buy Bioballs ~50

Well this is what the sump is looking like ATM. Was thinking of getting another one of these crates and possibly putting it under for some mech filtration.

What do you guys think i should use for mechanical filtration? Also are the bioballs okay not being fully submerged or will i have to bring the water level higher than on my awesome drawing? :)

Was also possible thinking about getting some foam and putting it into the pump as a prefilter any ideas on this or perhaps a link to something i can buy? Thanks

O, and the green is a piece of acrylic which i have over the top of the wet/dry section with a hole cut out for the PVC so water does not splash onto my floors.

bioballs work better not submerged, but you should def add some mechanical above them. With your setup, a filtersock might work best if you raise the pipe up some.

If i raise the pipe up any further it would splash all over.

How about letting the water land straight into some polyfiber/filter floss and then go through an acrylic drip tray into the bioballs?
