Hey guys,

Great thread! Quick question.

After the water passes through the filter socks, it then goes underneath the barrier, and up and over the next wall onto the drip plate. I get that. My question is, how does the water not just raise up in the first compartment? Is it b/c its easier for the water to flow underneath the first barrier rather than raising up in the first compartment?

As they say "water always takes the path of least resistance"

Thanks!

Hey guys,

Sorry I was having a brain fart when I posted my question, so please disregard my previous post.

However, I do have a question. After the sump is completed, and you are ready to put it into use, how much water do you put into the sump? (This is my first time using one, so I want to be extra careful)

I usually fill the tank, and let the overflows start filling the sump. I keep the water running but when the sump gets about 1/2 full start the pump. Then go shut the water off. If the level drops too much, just keep adding water until the water level is above the pump where it needs to be.

took some work as the used 55 I was going to have was a 50...lol trimmed some more when I got home to work...

Hopefully that works out for you.

I broke open the Elijah Craig last night...and it was good. Thanks. :)

great looking sump. Would you still need another filter (say a cannister filter) to use along with the bio balls? I was planning on doing a 125, using two cannister filters. I also wanted to do a sump. Would this be overkill?

Very nice looking sump But on the last thing underneath the scrubbies there is a 2 in' space, and the after that is looks to be 6 inches, I am under the impression that water wonter be able to go over that. How does that work? Can you please PM me about it, thats whats keeping me from making a sump rgiht now.
