DIY Weir Overflow Box

Can you draw in the tank wall in your image? In my brain I can't figure out whats going on because I'm not sure the placement of the overflow, water level and such in relationship to the tank wall height and edge.

Everyone seems to be missing the goal here. This is a just a DIY version of a hang on back overflow.

I looked for the thread where a member made one using specimen containers. It was a great job, but unfortunately, he has taken down the pictures. He took a lot of time and it turned out really well.

if this is true it should work fine. ive seen many people make these and have them work great. i bought a eshoppes one just cuz I was too lazy to make one but they look exactly like the op's design. I would recommend putting a hole on the top and adding a check valve to the siphon tube because it makes it alot easier to start a siphon after water changes and stuff

Marauder: Do plan on a check valve for starting the syphon. I too was looking at the eshoppes I want less surface skimming and more deep tank water collection. I have spray bars to keep the surface free of the bio scum.

Here is an updated drawing. Would have has a pic visual if Home Depot sold 3" sch40 pvc. they stop at 2" and do not have much of that even.

Drain piping will be 3/4" running 340ish GHP as I will have 2 on the tank feeding my sump.

One note: it is drawn this way just to show the tank level in relation to the overflow. Both will sit flat next to the tank. And is seriously not to scale

Going to Lowes in the AM (Hopfully) if not Sunday. See how early I get up tommorrow.:WHOA:

Looks pretty good I like. Your pipe on the outside running down to the sump might be loud. Perhaps and airline in the top like durso stand pipe? Also have you pondered doing just one complete piece of PVC for the entire overflow?

Nice!! I love to ridiculously over complicate things.

Thanks for the input.

the chamber on the right with the red pipe isnt even needed, just drain from the T of the first chamber.
:iagree:

It is a Rube Goldberg design of what has already been done.

By the way, the flow on these isn't that great. You will need to oversize the pipes from the traditional pvc overflow.

Here's a thread with some that I made for someone. There is a cut list of sorts and an explanation of the operation. It should give you some ideas to play with.
