DIY Welded metal stand. Questions.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you only need to gusset the top. the legs are not goin anywhere as long as you build a bottom frame as well. you will need 8 gussets to do the top.two on each corner

IMO nothing wrong with overkill.. welding is easyer than installing carpet and drywall...

i recently built a stand for my 210 using 1" square stock.....i would say the 2'' is overkill you can always add more braces and legs for extra support....my tanks been running for about 2 months and everything seems to be doing fine... the 1'' is alot lighter and easier to carry i can send you some pictures if you want of my build

if u look at mine u can see how it got welded face the front corners outward if u plan on putting another tank the same size on the bottom

here is a good pic of the bottom and u can see how like every 12inchs he put a cross bar for support with another tank

2" x 2" tubing 3/16" wall is perfect! Note: to compare tubing find out the weight per foot as that is how it is sold (weight). NO 1" with gussets! No angle iron! You do care what this looks like right? Are you going to put a shelf below it? Sump? Another tank?

Agreed, plus it (square tubing) just has this look of BEEF I like...

1" box 1/8" wall will do fine! not really even a debat. feel free to call your steel suplier. who sells it either buy the stick or as drop cuts. not wieght, are you serious its not oranges. they can tell you what the steel can hold on a horizontal span. seamed tube is cheaper so go that route by the way.

No 1" !! No 1/8" wall! Done correctly 2" will last a lifetime! 1" will not! Tubing IS sold by weight! That is how the retailer figures out how much to charge for it!
