I put together something like dat. I have a 5gal bucket holes in bottomm with drip plate in bucket.Bucket sits in 15gal sump tank.Try to build overflow box with lee specieman container but made hole on wrong side of container.Made utube with cpvc pipe. Used air tube to get system going. No luck! I don't know if its because plumbing hole is on the wrong side of container (lee) or because i dont have a strong enough pump to pump water back in tank. Aqua 1140 say pumps 300gph. I want to make a wet/dry system(S) 4 my tanks so bad I' at a lost here

stick with it, once you figure it out its worth the small headache. before you post next time, spellcheck is a GREAT thing

can you explain the blue piece ... i know its for starting the syphon right?
i have been tossing around the idea of doing what you did, instead of my PAIN IN THE @$$ overflow box (i will NEVER buy another tank that isnt drilled!)
and i think you convinced me!
my issue is that its a 180g tank, and i am running 900g/h pump, so i think i will use bigger diameter PVC, but other than that i want to use yours (unless you have any suggested changes)
my question was just how to start and keep a syphon?
and will it auto restart in a power outtage?
also, my pleco has a tendency to swim near my overflow now, get too close which breaks the syphon, and thus floods my tank (one time and counting ...) any ideas as to prevent that with your setup?

the air line going to the blue valve is what you suck on to prime it and to remove any trapped air.

the cement set FAST, so make sure you know what you want befor you use it. mine set within 10-20 seconds, and then i couldnt even move it anymore(wait 24hrs befor putting it in water with fish though to be safe)
it does smell really bad, but it doesnt stink up the whole room. just your work area, until you put it away. within a 1/2 hour i couldnt smell it on the pipe anymore.

the cement comes with the applicator attached to the cap, so no special tools are needed. just some paper towel for drips(runny stuff) the applicator is like a plastic lollipop stick with a cotton ball on the tip of it. and it works great... just be carefull of drips.
