Like Mo said, breeding colors are the best way. In fact I posted some pics of my Labridens pair years ago and was only then able to see the differences more dramatically. It turned out I had a pure male and a hybrid female. True yellows get that checkerboard look while hybrids don't. They get a more of a barred pattern IME.
