I use carbon filter pads as an air filter on the open back of my swamp tank's canopy. Does that count?

I only add it to help with tannins on new driftwood. Other then that, its just mechanical and bio.

I use it a fair bit in SW. Used to use it in freshwater a lot changing weekly but also went with purigen later on.

all of my filters is bio except one side of emperor, which is a blue pad with carbon and a little purigen

I stopped using carbon cuz it needs to be replaced too often unless like everyone else stated carbon only used to remove meds. I use purigen instead.
