Do feeder frogs contain parasites or diseases

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You’re throwing money away unless buying fish specifically sold as feeders - and even then it’s best to breed them.
Considering you just lost some expensive fish I’d be trying to save money at the moment.

Feeder GOURAMIS sold at my LFS for $2 a packet. Goes to show how different countries have different standards on fishkeeping.

some people in other countries may view it as inhumane ( especially western) but may be considered just junk feeders in Asian countries. Just for sharing!

With any live feeder that you didn’t hatch and raise yourself, assume there are parasites.
Back to the original post, frogs can carry parasites like Lernaea.

So if raised in a controlled environment, you may be OK.
If raised outside, and especially in ponds with Cyprinid fish species they may be problematic.
The reason I bring up Cyprinids, is they seem especially susceptible to Lernaea.

Anyone know what these are? Sold as feeder fish a bag. I have never seen these being sold as feeders before and I’m intrigued
