Sad fish? Well...there's no good without evil, no darkness without light...and there are countless MFK posters who are forever blithering on about their "happy" fish...so from that perspective, I suppose that there must be "sad" fish as well. Or, are there fish that are forever caught in a state of limbo between the two...trapped in an endless zombie-like emotionless trance, neither happy nor sad, just...indifferent...?
Funny how the people who ask about sad fish versus happy fish are often the same folks who want to keep Oscars in a 75-gallon cichlid community tank...and who want to know how small a tank they can shoehorn an Arowana into...and who wonder if a BGK will be okay with a school of piranhas...and who want to know which species of Peacock Bass will "fit" into a 75-gallon tank. Sound familiar? Those are just the ones that immediately come to mind in this instance.
I won't comment on my own feelings regarding sad or happy fish...except to note that if sad fish do indeed exist, there are some aquarists who seem exceptionally capable of creating that emotional state in their fish.
I can absolutely guarantee that reading about this can make some aquarists sad...
