I know...I'm just saying that the brain is very complicated and it's not an open and shut matter. We are learning new things all the time and I fully think it's possible that they are capable of emotions to some degree. Just because the anatomy is different doesn't mean that they are not capable of feelings at all.

Fish possess a primitive limbic system which is usually associated with pleasure. The limbic system as we know it is much more developed in the reptiles and later.
To me that means that fish probably feel emotion in a rudimentary sense.

To the Q: Yes, I believe that the larger a frontal cortex is, or the more effectively it can function, the more precisely defined an emotional palate may be. Part of my argument would be that more complex creatures encounter more complex situations. Due to these extra experiences, they can draw from more distinct, contextually varied memories when evaluating a given set of data. Whether it's running from the tiger or anticipating the flavor of the food before us, differently sized frontal cortices represent the hardware of our system. As we, say, run from the tiger, the prey (perhaps an antelope) may fall off of a cliff in blind fear. But we would see the cliff coming and (most of us) have the 'presence of mind' to decide what to do about it. But I don't see a direct correlation between brain size and apparent 'intellect'. I had a green severum that was rescued from lfs with a large oscar and a female jack dempsy. Well, when I split the fish up the severum wouldn't eat and started developing a skin condition(from stress). I put all 3 fish back together ---Eating resumed skin condition went away.......So coincidence???? I don't know????
