do guppies eat their fry?

cool, haha, do you recomed a species of guppy? what is the species you are breeding? what size tank you got there?

All guppys are the same species, but there are a lot of fancy strains being bred. They will all cross breed . Mine are just generic guppys, lots of variation and colour in the mix. Those are in a 20gal tank, but you can breed them in practically anything. A pair in a 5gal tank with plenty of weeds works great.

So if you have a community tank where all the fry get eaten, it's a good use for an old tiny tank ;) Once the fry outgrow the small tank they are big enough to not be eaten in the main tank and a new batch is about to drop.

The usual problem is to STOP then breeding :nilly:

give it time, water changes along with a little adverse water conditions. Guppies love to breed. They are found on every contenent except antarctic now!

Thanks Ianab...Those pictures of yours have made me want to start a guppy project...Thanks....Freakin feeders...lol....Nice shots...Shots like that sell....I tend to breed cons for feed, but the guppy project looks intresting....1 male to 3 female, O.K.....I can do that....My 55feeder is done cycling, well it should be...The dozen or so goldfish I have in there look so nice too....Not skinny, but thick with all the pellets I have been feeding them...They swim up to my hand....Looks so nice...Sometimes I think I'll leave it a goldfish tank....Heck...I started off with goldfish in the 80's...I think I owe one setup to them....Whatcha think....

How old the is the average guppy when it reaches sexual maturity? thanks
 
Im thinking I might turn my extra 10gal tank into a guppy breeder for my RD. If I put it above the RD tank and heavily planted it do you think I could get some filtration value out of it too? Or will the guppys generate too much waste? it would be like a gian HOT with plants in it.
