only answer if you really know your stuff when it comes to parachromis. ive never seen his true color until now, he was always pure black and now he is super gold with blue tint on top at times, i bought him at a petland discount store as a managuense for 10 dollars, im guessing he is a freddy or maybe one of those hondorun gold variant jags or maybe a freddy jag hybrid that was just tagged as a pure jag...that or i am just doing very well at maintaining my tank and its showing, i been around a decent amount of jags and never see them with gold colors its always a bronze color or a pearly silver type color. he is a little under 4inches (i bought him at 2 inches) i do really like him and i cud already see his fangs coming in its pretty cool.idrk someone help wit this , what does he look like to you

Yea, my female was silver and ended up gold.. I'd say its a hybrid though. It's always a tough call of which its a hybrid with though.. It's definitely jag x something parachromis, but loisellei, freddy, or motaguense is always hard to tell IMO since they can all have similar features in a hybrid. I've also seen many different types of managuensis though, not special strains or anything, just differences in spotting and base color. Time will always tell though.

I just know a male at 4" should have darker spots, pointier fins and almost no barring. Unless yours is really stressed. Whatever it is if say its a female. Not 100% but pretty close. If its a male then it's definitely a hybrid though

looks like a Juvenile jag to me. You cant compare your stressed young fish to a mature settled fish like you did. That is pretty much professional photography with a nice fish in a nice environment. Also young fish do not display the coloration and fins of a mature fish. Fish will change a lot in terms of color and shading depending on their mood among other things, stressed, breeding and comfortable fish will all show basic differences in coloration and patterns. Also photos, lighting and care will play a role. Looks like you have Jag. Give him a nice place to live with good conditions. A lot of young/juvenile jags and fish will darken like that when they are stressed. Grow him out for another year or so and see his true color.
