Do I need a special tank for fx5?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well my fx5 is up and running..wasnt as hard as I thought it was gonna be to set it up....pretty simple. Now when I do my weekly water changes should I use Jgray's method or is it easier if Im just cleaning my tank and not messing w/ my filter? COuldnt I just unplug it, clean the tank then plug it back in?

Well I did my first water change since I have hooked up my fx5. All I did was unplug it. Did i do anything wrong? I plugged it back in after w/c and it seems to be working like normal.

Thanks...pretty easy to use. I unhooked my other penguin 350 as well...So im running my fx5 and one penguin 350 now in my 120.

I THINK my fx5 is acting up.....NOt to sure if this is normal....but its spitting out lots of bubbles ....it used to not spit out any bubbles and would just make a strong current in the tank. ANy suggestions or input?

air bubbles that got sucked up and makeing it's way out.

Ive had my fx5 running for over 2 YEARS and NEVER had any problems with it,never experienced it shooting out air bubbles/trapped air ETC.

Gangster. Sorry I didn't reply I forget about this thread.

Once the Hoses are filled with water from the filter previously running, you don't need to put in 2 gallons of water to get it running. It will fill its self. Problem with doing this is that you will be adding water to you tank afterwards. The Fx5 holds a surprising amount of water.

Vynal hoses you can get at your local hardware store, this is probubly to late to tel you though. lol

This is a common issue with Fx5s. Well, not really an issue with the fx5, more so of the placement of media and how dirty the media is.

Any small particle filtration should go in the bottom basket. The small bubbles are from cavitation of the impeller. Micron pads should only be used for a few days at max.

When doing a w/c you don't need to unplug the Fx5 unless your bring the water level below the intake. You can just turn the flow down using the valves.

My procedure is only to be used when your removing the filter for maintenance.

What media are you running and how often do you clean or replace the media? If your not running any small particle filtration you won't ever have this issue. If you are and still have not had this problem then either your placment is good or you dont' wait till the media is clogged up.
