and also, I believe a fish you raised up with good water and good food will look a lot nicer than 99.99% of the big fish out there that were either wild caught or raised by someone else who didn't take care of them as well...

I do both, but you bring up a good point. I am usually cautious of older/bigger fish I buy though.

Always buy small and grow them on, I have a tank just for grow outs

My dad and I like to buy small and raise our fish. But like enjoyable attempt stated if I see a fish thats large and cheap or rare I take it. I also make many large fish resuces.

Unless it is adopted or rescued .. or rare ... i try to raise them from babies.. i love watching them grow into a monster.

Depends on the fish, if its a relatively fast grower like an Oscar, or discus for example I like to get them young, but as mentioned earlier somthing like fronts/clown loaches....I would rather drop the extra coin to get a good healthy adult as opposed to waiting 8 years for it to get there.
