DO NOT TRUST BICHIRS

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That's because they get in eachothers way and they have to share the same bottom surface. If there was more room they would avoid eachother, but since they can't....no offence though, but it's not all to blaim the bichir.

I agree I should not put the blame on the bichir.. I know he was invading his space and the ornate was just protecting his.. The other bichirs are allowed in his decor though so it couldn't be all about him protecting his space. I knew that bichirs are predatory and will eat things smaller.. but at the size they are now they are barely taking down small pieces of market shrimp let alone a 6 inch catfish... Lesson learned it just sucks because I am probably not going to start over with another Tig.....

Maybe the bichir don't see other bichir as a threat, but I'm no expert so I don't know why your Tig got bitten. Hope this helps people realize that combining fish needs thinking and sites like this to share experiences.

any fish that has its own hiding place will defend it

thats why i dont have any places to hide in my tank no territorys

That's a way to deal with agression over hiding place yeah. I don't prefer it because you will never see natural behaver of fish if they can't hide.

As shy as ornates seem to be in my experience I would never keep one without providing it some place to go.....My delhezis are out 100% of the time swimmin around..

if you give fish hiding places you hardly ever see them so whats the point

it works well to have a completey open tank no fights just a few chases plus your tank is better filtered as you dont get crap stuck under rocks wood or caves

I have an albino senegalus in with a reticulated ray, a siren, a ghost knife, and two irridescent sharks. He has been in there for over a year now though without a problem. In fact he seems to be the shyest fish in the tank. But i guess im gonna keep my eye on him a little closer now.
