do people really eat their cichlids?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would love to try all the fish i've kept, including the arowana! Only thing stopping me is the amount of money i've spent on my beloved fish and the amount of water treatments that have been added to the tank.

Wild piranha are supposed to be delicious when chargrilled:drool:

WOW. Your braver than I. I'm not sure that I could have tried it. Was it raised to be eaten?
They didn't tell me it was a dog till I ate it. They are pets, but apparently he likes the taste of them.

Oh, in that case one dog would probably be enough

ive lived on a farm my whole life so eating somthing ive raised from a baby is no big deal. That being said im not going to eat my fish just because I have no idea what im feeding them (whats really in those pellets?) and of course the water treatments. But if it came down to it and I needed food I would eat my chickens then my cows then the goats then my Fish then my horse and if I was really starving I would eat my dogs.

I would not eat a pleco, wild caught or otherwise. A pleco's diet would probably make it taste gamey/mossy.

But to say that eating a wild caught cichlid is gross is insulting to every person living in the areas where they are native.

People have been eating cichlids since they were able to catch them. We are talking thousands of years.

Should you eat fish from your aqaurium? Probably not

Should you eat wild caught cichlids? Yes, I imagine that they are as tasty as the Walleye, Perch, Catfish that we eat in the states, if not more so.

Also, just because you have a stigma about a certain food, you should not insult it. In Peru they eat guinea pigs, in southeast asia they eat cockroaches. You eat what is readily available, just because we drive to a supermarket or mcdonalds and grab whatever pleases us, doesn't make that the case for everyone in the world.

If I am lucky enough to make it to CA or SA for a vacation or otherwise, you had better believe I will eat any cichlid, catfish, mammal, bird they put in front of me. I would rather eat something that displeases my pallet than insult my hosts while I am a guest in their country.

ok let me know how the dogs taste when you visit north korea.

its not just north korea its south korea too as well as some other asian countries, and yeah i can see not wanting to insult your hosts and i would eat pretty much anything as i have the motto of "can't say you don't like it unless you try it" but i would still draw the line at dogs/cats that i just could NOT do
