I would get a dark blue background for him and feed food high in Astaxanthin like NLS ultrared.
He should color up as he grows.

He probably will color up as he grows since he is already faded. NLS ultra red is a good supplement to your staple, don't feed FH foods because all they have in them is fillers and a unhealthy amount of protein. Grading doesn't really matter as long as you enjoy keeping him, also it's based on personal opinion really. One more thing, you never really know what a RT will turn into when it's full grown, but he looks nice already so he probably will turn into a great fish.I'm new to the world of flowerhorns and I couldn't seem to find a solid answer in my research. I recently bought a 4 inch Red Texas male which is orange with light red around the head (he's actually a washed out pink at the moment because he just arrived three hours ago after a long stressful trip). I've kept a lot of cichlids over the years and their colors generally intensify and get bolder as they reach full maturity. Is it the same for Red Texas? I have no idea what grade he is but I spent 200 dollars on him from a reputable supplier so I assume he has decent lineage. He's a good looking fish either way and it's not like I'm going to show him but I was curious as to what I might be able to expect. Also, I know they sell color intensifying foods for flowerhorns but I wasn't sure if that's because they're packed with hormones. I feed a varied diet of prepared and freeze-dried food with NLS pellets as my staple.

Oh, I didn't know you could feed it exclusively. Yeah I don't think grading matters either. I don't know why so many people want really large Nuchal Humps instead of color or personality either. When they get far beyond what a Midas can get naturally they start to look really strange imo. The good thing about RT is that the Nuchal Hump on them doesn't really matter to most people, so you don't see them with Tennis Ball size Nuchal Humps like you see on Flowerhorns. The good thing about ultrared is it can be fed exclusively, there is no need for staple. Grading system is useless IMO as well. People get fixated to things that they don't really cared about. When I got my first flowerhorn I really enjoyed the color and attitude. Then I got fixated with hump size and gave to my cousin and got another one. Looking back, it looks stupid. Get what you love than what everyone thinks is good.

I've seen Rt with a lot of pearls, some of them get fused into patches sometimes like on Thai Silk, I've heard of (haven't seen) some of them that do have flowerlines but they get culled because they aren't usually what the breeder wants. Kamfas are my favorite strain just because of the really heavy pearling and the weird shapes their Nuchal Humps come in. Look at this oneUltra red is as any other NLS pellet with added Astaxanthin. Agree with you on hump size. Love RT but lack of pearls and flowerline as of kamfa is a deal breaker for me.

Lol you think that one is weird shipped your should've seen the one that was for sale on eBay for $400. It was a double kok FH, so it had a normal kok on the normal place but it had a second kok grow out on the front end of the normal one. By far the weirdest kok growth I've ever seen, was almost half tempted to get it too but it was just too weird looking.I've seen Rt with a lot of pearls, some of them get fused into patches sometimes like on Thai Silk, I've heard of (haven't seen) some of them that do have flowerlines but they get culled because they aren't usually what the breeder wants. It looks like he's wearing a helmet, one of the strangest shaped Humps I've seen. I also believe the flowerhorn is the pic is fairly old for a flowerhorn so that's pretty interesting.
