Bragging about getting in an accident while wreck-less driving and blaming the injury on the seat belt is the second most moronic thing I've seen on this site today

You ever think your buddys back is jacked up cuz he failed to control the vehicle under high speeds? Not the safety device

Hitting the steering wheel, the dashboard or the windshield with your face is not good for your eyes, nose, teeth, jaw, neck or brain.

The air bag will deploy and probably kill or seriously injure you if you do not have your seat belt/shoulder belt on.

For every person that may have been trapped and/or killed while wearing a seat belt, there are probably 10,000 people who were not killed
or had greatly reduced the seriousness of their injuries because they were wearing their belts ...

I can't tell you how many false, exagerated, urban legend stories I've heard. Everything from this piece of idiocy to the burning vehicle to the friend who drowned in a swamp because he was belted in. Never mind the highly increased incidence of remaining conscious post impact and therefore able to attempt to free yourself from the wreckage. Or that not becoming a projectile when ejected in rollover increases your survival rate by several orders of magnatude. Or of keeping you in your space instead of bouncing around the interior and injuring / killing others.

I also enjoy the theory of being able to stop before hitting the dash / windshield while unbelted, not realizing that trying to do so in a 50 km crash is like jumping out of a 2 story window and using your hands to stop your face from hitting the pavement.

Do you remember the old commercial where a pumpkin flies through the air and hits a power pole? Not far from reality.

That's how I see it and I rarely buckle up.This state allows motorcycle operators to ride without a helmet but dictate to automobile drivers and passengers to buckle up.

Edit: just realized it might appear that my rant was directed at ballinouttacntrol. Not so, I was agreeing with his assessment of the injury due to seatbelt story.
