Monsoon season just started here in Phoenix and last night we had a good storm.......again I'm thinking about a generator :nilly:

I'm just curious what percentage of MFKers have a backup system for power outages and what's the most popular.

Edit: you can choose more than one if you have multiple backup systems.......

I'm really lucky were I live. Never had a power outage last longer than 1 hour. Never felt the need to get a back-up

No backup at the moment. I've been very lucky (knock on wood) so far in regards to losing power. We've had some VERY severe storms here in Kentucky the past few years, and for 3 different storms, my block was the ONLY one that didn't lose power. The rest of the neighborhoods power was out for about 36 hours one time, but ours just flicked off and then back on.

The longest I've ever had the power out was about 2 hours, and the tanks didn't show any negative effects from it. All of my systems restart on their own when the power comes back on, except for two of my HOB's that don't like to restart without some fiddling...

Once I move (hopefully in the next 6 months) I'll be looking into adding some sort of backup system, as I'll be doing a fish room.

i have a web cam that i can access from any computer so i know if the power goes out when im away.

i have a generator that i hook up if the power does go out

my tanks are prety heavily stocked so they will suck up all the oxygen pretty quick

I have a generator, and I also have a box that plugs into the phone + power lines with a 9v battery in it. When the power goes out, it automatically calls my cell phone every 15 minutes for the duration of the outage. It's a Reliance THP202- I got a refurb off ebay for $25.

I used to worry about whether the power was out any time that I wasn't at home during a storm, but not any more..

Every night it has rained hard in my area. My pool is filled to the top :) So far no power outages and I've been here 7 years and never had the power go out but this is my first year with over 1000 gallons of water in fish tanks and a couple $$$ in stock :screwy:

Now I have something to worry about :(

Thankfully we haven't had too many long-term outages recently... But in MY perfect world I'd have at least a generator for the tanks, if not my whole house...
