We invested in a whole house standby generator a few years ago. It has been a godsend at least 4 times during power outages of more than 12 hrs. Not only does it keep the fish tanks running, it also allows us to have running water (private well) & heat during the winter. It wasn't cheap but is one of the better investments I've made in this house.
We had a bad storm here over this past weekend and a lot of folks lost power for several days. I am worried that if it happened over the winter, for sure my fishy will die. I guess I better start thinking about a backup plan. Would like to hear what others are doing.

Generator seems like the best idea personally. I believe they run on gas which almost everyone keeps an extra can or so around just in case. Plus it could easily be used on everything else besides just the fish. Their not cheap though, but worth it when your using a flashlight to see how the fish are doing. lol
Well 65% of us so called monsterfishkeepers don't use any kind of backup at all
I think I'm going to price out a little generator. Maybe I can use it camping also? I have not had a power outage in the 7 years I have lived here in Phoenix but that doesn't mean anything. Tomorrow some new 16 year old driver can hit the gas instead of the break and take out my power pole! The fish I've had for years are at risk so I'm going to take a hard look at a generator......... maybe Craig's list?
Yep, thenx for the poll. It made me little para..
Seems here in Holland we have small tornado's, always had.
Which can cause local mayhem.
Im thinking about getting a small generator pretty soon.
Do to the remotness and heavy forestation where I live we frequently lose power for says on end. Thank god I have a generator large enough to power the whole house and tanks.
