do you have sympathy for feeder gold fish?

I feel even worse for the people here that not only don't feel any sympathy, but also enjoy watching feeders (they are alive too, people) get eaten. Sure I enjoy watching my animals eat, but I don't enjoy watching the food animals get eaten. And up until I feed them to my pets, I treat them delicately and with respect.

Yeah, sympathy on the fish eating goldfish for getting a triple serving of thiaminase, extra fats, who knows what diseases...

Sympathy on both: the fish eating another and the fish being fed to. My primary reasons are health issues and the fact some people fail to comprehend the importance of nutritional value.

I don't have to feed any of my fish feeders. I have silverdollars, feifengs, tsn, lsn, and others that won't even touch live. TSN and LSN eat frozen. When I did feed live, I used neon tetras and sometimes mollys, but that wasn't to often.

As far as goldfish, it's a shame to see a creature with the genetic predisposition toward social networks and good longevity be used the way it is.

For most livebearers, life actually seems pretty cheap since they only live a few years as it is and reproduce in such a clever way. It's still sad, but not as sad as majestic goldfish going to the grave as fry.

I guess I'm a sicko, I don't feel bad. I rarely do feeders but when I do I love to watch the hunt.

I understand that the piscivorous fish need to eat, but the pirahnas you will see on youtube, eating live frogs, live mice, and of course fish, sickens me! Not in the wild of course because that is part of nature, but in a tank where the prey has no chance of getting away at all is just sick...

I feel bad for them. Grown like cattle just to become food. Im not a hippie or anything but yeah it would suck to be a feeder. I havnt used feeders in a long time and i dont think i ever will want too just for the fact that i feel bad for them. It is natural for fish to eat other fish but these guys dont even have a chance.

Nope. I eat meat and expect no less from a pet fish.

I feel exactly the same for the feeder fish that I occasionaly throw in the tank as I do for the piece of fish fillet I put in there.

As others have said, I try to avoid live feeders as much as possible due to health reasons for the pet fish that I am feeding. I do feel sorry for my pet fish when they get sick, and feel much worse when it was I that brought about the condition and could have easily avoided it. Parasites in feeder fish is a prime example!
