Mo,
I am unsure how allowing hybrids in the ACA would promote conservation.
I am a bigger fan of conservation of a species than I am to introduce new man made strains.

I was a fan of hybrids because I had kept livebearers for so long. It is always interesting forming new fin shapes and colors in guppies and swordtails. However, cichlids for me need to be kept they way they were intended. Line breeding to form new strains of Angels and discus has for the most part been accepted with enthusiasm. And the Discus hybrid theory has yet to be proven fact or fiction.(hasn't it?)

I line breed my Firemouths, but there is little difference between mine and wild caught(depending on geographic location) as my fish just have more intense blues and reds.

For the sake of the ACA, I think the real question is how many of it's 1200 members keeps hybrids? My guess is very few...less than 10% of the membership. But that is just a guess. The reason is most ACA members care about conservation and keeping cichlids in the pure strains that Mother Nature intended.

I hope the committee that is formed continues to Ban hybrids from ACA shows for judging. I am open to a separate show of tanks with hybrids for discussion and to make the topic more aware to the membership but for educational purposes and not judging for awards per se.

I would also like to see the inclusion of Angelfish and Discus to continue as they have been already accepted and honored.

But I am only one opinion of many...

Maybe the question should be would you instead of do you. I guess it depends on what type of research you're doing.

After this thread slows down here, I might move it to the hybrid forum so it can have some more exposure.

Also, I'd like to remind members this is not a debate. It's a yes or no question.

fishfreak-Why? This is a good thread-good points on both sides.

It was asked to be that way....

Okay it was asked to be that way but you have to understand that when you have a poll people are not going to answer yes or no-it's human nature to explain your stance and debate-I personally like reading the different views on both sides.

I agree man...Start a topic for discussion...It will be a good thread as long as the flames are kept to a minimum...The mods and I assume Mojo wanted this to last as long as possible for more vote exposure...Our votes on this matter are truly indicative to the overall standpoint of fish-keepers in general...So in short, this is a mildly scientific poll...It must remain open and free of debate that would sway votes just to "be with the majority"....All of this is just my opinion....

If someone would like to create a discussion based off of this thread feel free to do so. I'd like to keep discussion out of this other than yes/no. I'm only asking this because I'd like to keep this one open. Based on the history of hybrid debate threads this one would probably go down the same path which would kill the poll.
