Wow, 3 posts deleted for filter bypass? Seriously, this thread is so simple, cant we have a civil thread without all the foul talk?

Wow I think thats pretty funny man, considering your sig says ass and the "un civil" remarks had to be assumed to be bad because they were missing letters...Jeeze, seriously.

Anyways.... i call my africans all together by one curse word, because they are ruthless.

i never thought about naming fishes and people have asked me do i name them, i find it weird (no offense) but now i actually will name few fishes, not all of them i guess. even though they can't hear i think i'll name them just because i read this post :D

This is WAY MAJOR LEAGUE untrue. Any Marine Biologists on the site, plese help me out!

I was in a seminar on Rockfish (Striped Bass) fishing where a study was done on the decible level of various types of boat motors at various speed and with various lengths of trolling line.

Even at 300 yards of line in a 4 cycle on troll speed voices on the boat could be heard clearly on the trailing microphone. It has been determined that noise (sound) is extremely detrimental in fishing, so I asume that they do have a keen sense of hearing.

If not, they have a keen sense of feel that can easily pick up sound waves through long distances of water, which might as well be hearing!:D

Well I understand, since you are a fisherman, not naming your fish.. but I've known farmers who have named pigs and stuff even though they knew that pig would end up dinner eventually!

I don't know much about fish hearing but I can tell that they know who I am and what I am about. If my fish can represent it's personality, I feel it only deserves to get a name!

I'll make sure to clean up my language.. but honestly, when I left letters out it was deliberate. I don't use the curseword.. I use the letter word! lol

Please don't misunderstand me. I am an avid fisherman, but I DO name ALL of my tropical fish pets. I personally think (Just my oppinion) that they do respond to the sound of my voice.

I look at it like this. We know that Dogs/ Cats do not have fluent understanding of any Human language, but they DO relate certain words in their owners language to their environment. We have no problem with nameing and speaking to them as such!

If fish do not have a similiar "ability" to relate some words "in their owners language", then it is still no loss/ no foul to name/ speak to them. If they do have this "ability" to some degree, then we would be flat out NEGLECTING their "sosial" needs if we refuse to Name and speak to them!

Can you imagine living with a roomate that would for no reason issue so much as a sylible to you? Although the other could also be true, and the "owner" could have diareah of the mouth and fail to understand the middle fin and the message "STFU" their "pet" is trying to get through to them!

I always associate my pets with myself in a similar way. Good to see others do. I use the same argument for people who do not decorate or put cover in their tanks. I know it's a personal preference and many fish can be happy with no substrate or decor, but I know if I was put in a zoo or on display I'd be much happier with a bed or chair than being thrown in an empty cell! Of course I won't ever challenge someone's right to keep their fishtank the way THEY want it.

I know pets aren't people.. but they do feel and live and at least understand body language!
