I thought the spines on plecos hurt when you touch them? I've always been afraid to touch my gibby with bare hands for that reason.

I don't feel any spines where I have to touch it. I mostly pet the side over the pectoral fins and near the tail. I don't go too close to the head for fear of that myself. They just feel like they're bony and rough-ish skin.

As far as my chocolate zebra pleco goes... it is still young and I wouldn't try to touch it. I can see the spines growing on that little sucker and they're making me nervous already. lol :nilly:

I had an oscar that would rub against my hand and arm when I did waterchanges. I think he liked to "pet" me.

That just gave me a funny image...

OSCAR, the not-so-grouchy grouch. lol

Wow... I crack me up.

I've worked in a LARGE wholesale freshwater fish supplier, and the way the catch fish to ship out it to get the fish in a net and the scoop it out with you hand. Your hands are much less abrassive than nets, and as long as you hand is wet and the fish is in water, slime cost loss is minimal.
However, I don't pet my fish. ;)

Plecos are no problem. You know what are horrible? PICTUS CATS.
Oh, and corys will stick you. And loaches will stick you with the spines under their eyes. I've had large clown loach draw blood.

I think that the first time that I ever heard about the built-in switch blades of Clown Loaches was from one of your posts. It still is weird to me, cool, but still weird. Anyway, No, I don't pet my fish. I think my Midevil would love it though. But I'll stick to just feeding it by hand.

Like others I only touch my fish when they swim by me during a WC or I tell them to move with my hand sometimes....But Their Spines are UBER Sharp(Polys) and my hand has gotten irritated when being scraped by them before.
