Do you punish your fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Simple.
Just eat them.

Sit in front of the tank when you do, so everyone else gets the idea.

I had to try this out so I went into my fish room where my Oscar was in his tank pushing around gravel. I reached in and socked him right in his fat face and sure enough he stopped moving the gravel around. I guess it works...

honestly a fish will most likely never learn what it did wrong anyway

I'm not sure NEGATIVE REINFORCEMENT works on a fish. I think we have to understand that they have limted intelligence. Consider the siz of their brains. They're not dogs or even cats. It's an interesting experiment . . . (Smile).

i had a grey triggerfish once that was "curious" i was working on a power head and he came up and gave me a stiff nip on the wrist. i shook it off and figured he was just tasting me for fun. but then i was feeding him and a large piece of shrmp fel to the bottom. when i went to pick it up he latched on to me . when he let go i grabbed him and held him against the glass. after that he never bit me or tried to again. he was so tame he would eat brine shrimp from my hand and never even nipped me. i dont support " punishing" i support "Disciplining" but only if the fish is smart enough to "get it" e.g. cichlids and triggerfish, my oscar used to break my power head. when i would catch him in the act i would tap on the glass so he would stop. eventually he learned to stop. but as for the net shaking thing thats tottaly wierd.

I use the three strike rule.

1st a verbal warning while they are netted.

Next offence he will get bagged and held at the pleasure of the court.

Third strike and hes out...outta the good tank and inta the boring one.

Yes I have. The damn Oscars will come to the top and get in the way of the gars. The gars were here before them so they are just better and are first priority. I feed the oscars first since they always need fed like dogs. But after awhile i want the gars to eat. So If I put a pellet in for the gar specifically and if the Oscar comes near I will at times push them away. Rather hard at times since their not small oscars. Gotta do what ya gotta do.

I've also put a Female GT in a 10 gallon because it kept attacking the male. I also verbally abuse the black oscar at times. It will open it's mouth and try to attack/defend it's self and stare straight at me.....I tell it to shut up. :)
