My jar has been really picky and this mourning for the first time she swollowed a couple koi sticks... and again after work she ate a few... I quickly trew in a cichlid stick, she mouthed it and spit it out right away... I was just wondering what everyones opinion would be on me feeding him/her these koi sticks until I can get him/her to take the cichlid sticks or other pellets... the min protien was 31% in the koi sticks and 45% in the cichlid...
Here are the two products...

" Tetra's most popular Koi food! A highly nutritional diet that brings out vibrant reds and yellows on Koi and ornamental goldfish. Feed in spring, summer and fall, when water temperatures are 50°F and above."
"A complete summer diet combined with red and yellow color enhancers. These lightweight sticks soften quickly on contact with the water's surface ensuring they are easily digestible and less prone to cause water contamination. This special food floats longer so pond keepers can enjoy watching their fish feed on the water's surface. For summer feeding."

hese floating sticks are an excellent alternative to messy live foods for aggressive, carnivorous fish. This food’s formula consists predominantly of dried krill and shrimp, and is irresistible for large Cichlids such as Oscars, Green Terrors, Dempseys, Piranhas, Arowanas as well as marine fish such as Lionfish, Triggerfish, Angels and Groupers. Jumbo Sticks contain natural attractants and carotenoids to promote color development in natural pinks and orange-red. Enhanced with vitamin C and the new patented, health enhancing ProCare blend from TetraMin®.

I don't see the harm in feeding it that. What I would do is feed that in addition to something else. Defiinitely try krill.

Mine likes dried white shrimps but doesn't like that Tetra Cichlid, I threw a few in there and it spit them out. Most likely cause it doesn't soften quickly. i willl try the koi foods. Why can't they be more like Tinfoil Barbs who eats anything that can fit in it's mouth.

Yeah, my jar is incredibly picky... I've tried freeze dried krill and again it spat it out... I think s/he likes these because they soften, and I like them because they're cheap and don't mess up my water as bad as those awful cichlid sticks that claim not to mess up my water LMAO also they have color enhancers and vitamens added and plus they do float much longer... the cichlid sticks actually sink really fast... luckily my cats don't mind...

The koi foodsticks contain too little protein for aro:) You may wanna consider hikari cichlid bio gold. I'm using it and the fish seen to like it better than the foodstick.:)

other than its designed for goldfishes... so theres just a lil bit of protein compared to foods designed for carnivorous fishes... i dont see any problem.

My arowana readily take...and prefer...Large Hikari Gold Koi pellets.

I guess if your aro is already taking these foodsticks, why not add on with more protein packed foodsticks and pellets for it? Should be a good combo.:)

Well the thing is I've tried other pellets and sticks... I think s/he wants something soft... she spit out the cichlid stick adain and I threw in some medium cichlid gold pellets and she didn'tt even eat look at them... after I got her to eat a koi stick this mourning I threw in a couple meal worm larvaes to make up for it.... (my leopard geckos won't eat the meal worms once they start turning.) Does anyone know of anyother soft floating packaged fish food with a higher protien%.... thanx for all the rplys and suggestions so far...
