Do you talk or text while driving?

U ride a motorcycle always? And yes reading a billboard is a type of distracted driving. So its driving angry which I know u have done. We all do. So yes, hypocrite.

Ha nope, .... i dont have a radio, sing, eat or drink, i ride a cbr 600 ( just in case you dont know its a motorcycle) and i dont carry passenger. Reading a billboard has NOTHING to do with texting or talking on a cell so nope im not a hypocrite ... nice try though

While I don't necessarily think that it's practical to make texting/talking on a cell phone illegal, I do feel the need to point out that talking/texting is definitely less safe than talking to a passenger or listening to the radio.

I wrote a short essay earlier this year about distracted driving, and if anyone wants to see my sources I could probably dig up a few articles of the articles I used. One study pointed out that while both texting/talking on the phone and talking to a passenger are distracting, talking to a passenger is less dangerous and less distracting because the passenger is likely to alert the driver when the driver is doing something dangerous.

Texting and driving is illegal in Canada

Today in my local newspaper

RCMP say officers were called at about 10 p.m. to a two-vehicle collision at the junction of highways 32 and 332.

An 18-year-old Swift Current woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the sole occupant of a four-door sedan.
The two occupants of the second vehicle - a pickup truck - a 23-year-old male driver from Saskatoon and his 30-year-old female passenger from Raymore, were taken to Cypress Regional Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. RCMP say there are indications the victim may have been texting while driving and police say this may have been a contributing factor in this collision.

According to statistics released by SGI at that time, distracted driving, which includes cellphone use, was a factor in close to 8,500 collisions in Saskatchewan last year, resulting in more than 2,300 injuries and 60 deaths.

I believe that texting while driving should be banned everywhere, not only does it take your eyes off the road, it takes your mind off the road to focus on typing letters and also takes one hand away from the steering wheel= That to me equals a death sentence. Car accidents and deaths are so frequent to risk your life or someone elses just isn't worth sending a text

yup always. i have no other ride. ..... ok whatever, u gohead and think that...lol

I wish I could say they need to butt out of people's business - but there are certain people who do not need to be driving at all, let alone with a phone (you know who you are mister going 55 in the fast lane while texting).

For reference - I do talk and do text, if speakphone counts and reciting text to my passenger counts after she reads me the text. Otherwise I try to pull over in a parking lot to take care of it.

The constant distraction argument is flawed logic. Sorry not trying to be rude but it makes no sense. I guess because there are other stimuli out there natural and UN-natural we should just look the other way. Why not? after all that person who killed a family of four while texting was probably going to do it anyway because of that funny bumper sticker so lets ban them as well. Wow that'll sooth the family members. Hell why stop there lets just throw in ovens and and ping pong tables. Climb in the back seat to smack the kids around. Seriously lets all get to the point where we look like Homer Simpson. Making mixed drinks, cooking some frozen pizza in a toaster over because I can not dedicate my concentration on other drivers, after all there are billboards out there. Because glancing over to see "the mcrib is back" is clearly the same as typing out a conversation.

I think the point that some are trying to make is when is the banning of things going to stop? Next it is going to be no smoking, then no radio/music. I agree we should do whatever we can to protect drivers(i.e seat belts, no drinking and driving) within reason. I do not text while I drive but I do occasionally talk hands free on my cell (bluetooth all voice activated). I just think its a little crazy to to put a ban on something just because some individuals cannot act responsibly.
