I have a very stubborn wild caught male front that has gone 3 months without eating. I only saw him eat a pellet and a piece of market shrimp during that 3 months. the other day I put some feeders in the tank, going on 4 months and he ate like a pig. No, they wont let themselves die but they can be very very stubborn. If one dies it is probably from stress or something else.
if the fish is very healthy it wont starve its self to death. however, if the fish is sick and close to death it will die.. the lack of food would cause it to die quicker.
Yes. I had an orbignyi that would only eat live black worms. I ran out and couldn't find them in my area anywhere. I tried everything else under the sun, but it was black worms or nothing. He never ate anything else again. So, yeah, I'd have to say a fish WILL starve itself to death.
I vote yes. My TSN wouldn't switch. I may have done something wrong in the process but I know he was so skinny his head started sinking in. I tried several different kinds of food and feeding him at various times. Nothing worked. I think he was eating some of the pellets but not enough to keep him healthy and I couldn't bear to loose him to something like that....so feeders it is.
