Do you think African Arowanas are ugly?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
African Aro's look kinda drab to me, but I wouldn't mind keeping one. And I have sold a fish before because my parents thought they were ugly, the Flowerhorn lol.

To me they are the nicest of the non-Asian varieties. I wish I still had mine. Are you keeping fish to impress others or are you keeping fish you enjoy?

Yeah, I guess that's the key. I think I want fish that look cool to me and impress my guests too. The more important thing is that my fish look good to me and that's why I still kept my African Aro. Sometimes I invite female guests over and they all say how pretty my angel fish are, but I can't keep a tank full of angels. It would be too boring. So I've tried to mix it up with pretty girly fish like angels with boss looking manly fish like temensis cichla and Afros.

I kick any girl who say that to my fish out of my house!

Believe me man, I want to kick out those girls who insult my taste in fish too, but I don't have enough girls over to be that picky haha.

i have a 16 inch afro that i love hahaha. i love them dont sell it there are not alot of big afros around which makes them even cooler.

Awesome man. Yeah I always see big silver aros, but hardly ever see big Afros. For a minute, I thought about selling my African aro and buying a medium size silver or black aro to grow out but I'm glad I kept the African Aro because it makes my tank look a lot more unique.

One of the reasons I like having my tanks in the basement and off of the main floor is that I can avoid having to answer some of the stupid questions and remarks that some visitors can come up with.I'm at the point now where I don't even mention my tanks to visitors who don't already know about them.

I know what you mean. Some guests tell me my bichirs are scary-looking (almost every girl who's seen my 240g says that) but I like bichirs so much that I would never get rid of them. It just bothers me a little when people I invite over talk **** about my fish. They should have some more manners. Sometimes it irritates me so much that I think about selling that fish, but I'm glad I didn't.

x2 ditto!!! I LOVE AFRO's!!! haven't seen mine in ages!!! =( he in a dark black sided pond, but he is doing well! need to get tank back up soon so i can get pics up!!!

I think the Silver/Black Aro has the coolest body shape and the appearance, considering its size too. The Aisan Aro tops simply because of its colors. Africans are not ugly, but there is nothing cool about them either, just my opinion.

Flitter Feeding... kinda sets them out form ya average fish too then personality....

I don't see the attraction. I have never liked them. Nor the arm and the leg I'd have to sacrifice to own one.

I use to want one before... Then one day r1 told me to get one if I didn't mind seeing a penis swimming around in my tank!! but In the end its up to you what you see your fish as!:D

Same here, some people are just plain rude and annoying, especially people that don't even know you (brother n sister's friends).

As for African arowanas, you got to be kidding...they are by far one of the coolest looking arowana. I have never seen one bigger than 12", but I think that they get more and more beautiful as they age - size and color. African arowanas are also harder to find, so I would keep it if I were you...but if you really don't like it then sell.
