When I was in Thailand and Singapore they served the eggs as a delicacy at restaurants. Popular as food in SE Asia. They even served FRT as soup. it's supply and demand. And everyone wants what they can't have. They also had channa micropeltes for 1$ feeders. Here in the states, people would be willing to pay over 100X that amount for a fingerling red.

They had largemouth bass for 35$ there and Here in the states well...no one would pay for a largemouth. Location location location

The only reason we don't have snakeheads here is because the fools in the government think they'r the equivalent of freaking JAWS in freshwater. Except there's thousands of them. In reality, LMB aren't native to most areas of the US and they don't cause too much of a problem. Neither do snakeheads.

Not really, S.E Asia doesnt really seem to care too much about the buying and selling of these animals...

FRT's are often openly on display for sale at the stores, and as said above, not expensive... There is one store thats had a reasonably sized FRT in the same tiny tank for at least the last 5-10 years, and no one has said anything (law wise) otherwise, that thing wouldnt be there no more...

You missed my sarcastic point which was that if the turtles were thought to bring good luck or sexual virility or something else then they probably would be harvested and eaten more than what they already are.

Yep, we're talking about FRTs/PNTs (Fly River turtle/Pig-Nose turtle). Carettochelys insculpta.
