My ray is not learning from his aro tank mates. He does not eat pellets. He does not eat crickets. I have never seen him eat feeders either. He accepts shelled prawn only. Though last time i saw him trying to eat a frog (unsuccessfully) ... basically just sucked out all the guts then chewed on the frog then spit it out

Eek! We need a video of your ray vs the frog!!!!

its really funny to watch.... i got 2 small ones for free figured to like the asians and feed to my aros... aros bit one killed it then ray ate it... threw the other in and the ray went insane chasing it around the tank for like 5 min... wish i had a video :(

I'm thinking that rays definetly teach other rays......

I added a captive pup to my w/c in isolation. Day 3 she's began eating shrimp.

Jag looks to be taking shrimp and smelt.

:headbang2

Worked a lot better than starving in isolation. That failed for months.

I have never kept more than one ray together so I cannot comment on the original question...

However rays are the most intelligent fish I have ever kept.

What have you observed Steve?

I have a female that will come to the surface in the same corner of the pond to get fed. She breaks the surface and spits water. If ignored she will just sit right below the surface till she gets fed.

Have a fresh WC male that has figured out how to hoard food. When a handfull of cut shrimp is tossed into the pond he will quickly go to where it's falling, pounce on it and basically catch pieces on the front portion of his disk. He holds this up in the water off the bottom of the pond so the other rays can't get it, then eats it piece by piece after finishing the pounced on pieces. After bullying the other rays they seem to stay cllear of him more and more at feeding times.

DB we need a video of this!

My Batman recently began banging river rocks in my bare bottom! Im guessing its either to play or begging for food!

Video???? PPFFFT. I don't even have a camera anymore....LOL

I'll work on it.

as it so happen i do have a video of him eating the frog (i put in frogs for aros to eat, but obviously one made it down to ray)... unsuccesfully

i was a bit surprised since i saw your ray munching all kinds of tankmates ... he got as far as hips. then i removed the frog because of water concern

Trying to upload to youtube ... having some difficulties for some reason
