:) I love these stories.

Went into petsmart and saw a girl with her dad, he had a 10gallon tank in his arms, than a oscar and a betta in the other. I asked is he gona put those in together and he said yea... so i walked away laughing.

Nice story though, Would have loved to be there when it happend.

You should have at least mentioned that betta feeders will get awfully expensive lol. :screwy:

That's cool that the clerk was somewhat knowledgable.. 180g isn't a horrible size tank and if he said 30g or 55g it would be much worse. He'll either get them to live or some will die and he'll learn from his mistakes. Part of fishkeeping.

 :grinno:  Feed your cichlids flake food  flakes are for gold fish cichlids need meat:naughty: flakes are garbage imo any brand when being fed to monster fish i would have had to tell the guy that befor he left i think that was a bigger mistake than over crowding the 180.

??? are you not aware that there are different types of flake foods? cichlids can eat flakes and thrive, in the past my cichlids ate flakes then once they got big they lost interest in the flakes and started eating the pellets... so if you have a cichlid that stays small 6" or so they will probly accept flakes as a staple for the rest of their life...

you should of told that mak about ]V[.F.K :headbang2

You should have told him to join MFK.. he has sooooo much to learn:(

Sadly, this happens alot. What I think is worse...

A GLOBAL MODERATOR on a related forum (let's not name names, but it shares it's abbreviation with "Air Conditioner") mistook this fish for a Ram:

And then tried to argue with the owner that it was, indeed, a Blue Ram... someone really needs to start an educational program about fish. And then screen moderators on said site. Luckily, all the mods here on MFK are very knowledgable. Thank god.

Today at Petsmart I was buying an oscar. It was about 5-6" The lady in front of me in line is like wow that is a really big fish! So I was thinking "wow this is the biggest fish you've ever seen?" But I just said ok or something. Then her daughter runs up and is like wow thats a big fish! I was just thinking cmon the things like 6" it's tiny.

Yeah stuff like that is really dumb, once when i was at my lfs i got talking to this other guy who was going to buy some fish as we waited in the line waiting to be served.
I asked him about his fish and what fish he had in his tank, and amoungst other fish, he had 40 bala sharks (a fish which can grow to over 12inches long) and some 8-9inch long common and sailfin plecos in his 30gallon tank (sounded way smaller than a 30gal though from the discription of the measurements), he said he was going to get some more fish because the tank still looked kinda empty ( :screwy:). I said "you know those fish are gonna die when they grow to nearer to their 12inch long length", he said he didn't believe me and just walked off.

I always feel sorry for the fish in these situations :( ....

Those stories and worse are what I hear everyday. The worst has to be when an assortment of fish have been picked(pacu, ID shark, Midas, etc.) and as your going to get the net you say, "What size tank do you have?, you know some of these guys get big." Yhe reply invariably is, "Huge, 30-55 gallon tank" And I've had these fish before, they don't have to get that big. I then recommend crickets as pets.
