??? are you not aware that there are different types of flake foods? cichlids can eat flakes and thrive, in the past my cichlids ate flakes then once they got big they lost interest in the flakes and started eating the pellets... so if you have a cichlid that stays small 6" or so they will probly accept flakes as a staple for the rest of their life...

That's round about what i meant i know little fish eat flakes and do well but i was thinking my 13" devil this guys o's eating flakes when big they would starve to death. There's no weight to a flake but a pellat has some sustanace to it and better yet market shrimp, beefheart, nightcrawlers, stuff that weighs somthing that will make the fish go lay down in the corner full hahaha.:grinno:

Luckily, all the mods here on MFK are very knowledgable. Thank god.

Better yet they know how to say "I don't know" :)

the best teachers will admit they do not know the answers, but follow it with knowing where to look... or if I am your teacher, I will assign you a 24 pg research paper on the subject for the next class. (that keeps them quite)

I have a 55 gallon right now that is overstocked I would say but if you would see any of the fish in the tank their thriving with beautiful colors. I change the water about 60-70 percent every 3-4 days. Tank list : 2x Flowerhorn, 1x Trimac, 1x Festae, 1x Midas, 1x Banded devil, 1x Green Terror, 1x Black Belt, 1x Buttikoferi, 1x Fredrich Starlii, 2x Texas Blue, 2x Convict pair(had for 3 yrs). I realize time is coming for me to remove some fish but ill simply put them in my pond outside.

Yeah stuff like that is really dumb, once when i was at my lfs i got talking to this other guy who was going to buy some fish as we waited in the line waiting to be served.
I asked him about his fish and what fish he had in his tank, and amoungst other fish, he had 40 bala sharks (a fish which can grow to over 12inches long) and some 8-9inch long common and sailfin plecos in his 30gallon tank (sounded way smaller than a 30gal though from the discription of the measurements), he said he was going to get some more fish because the tank still looked kinda empty ( :screwy:). I said "you know those fish are gonna die when they grow to nearer to their 12inch long length", he said he didn't believe me and just walked off.

I always feel sorry for the fish in these situations :( ....
i would have been like "yeah your right, theyll die before they reach full size"

Those stories and worse are what I hear everyday. The worst has to be when an assortment of fish have been picked(pacu, ID shark, Midas, etc.) and as your going to get the net you say, "What size tank do you have?, you know some of these guys get big." Yhe reply invariably is, "Huge, 30-55 gallon tank" And I've had these fish before, they don't have to get that big. I then recommend crickets as pets.
i love that people are like my tank is huge 40gallons, im like man that is giant, hahaha

No problem with growouts as long as you have a plan for when your growing aggressive cichlds get aggressive. :) But with that many in that size tank they must be small..
