Do you use Cypress Mulch?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm bumping this because many may not be aware of where Cypress mulch comes form.
Please don't use it in your enclosures, or in your garden.
Go tell Mom too.:D

I did switch over to eco-earth after reading this thread back in December and I couldn't be happier with it. I buy the loose stuff instead of the bricks because it is so much easier than soaking and drying it. And it says right on the bag that it is a "Green Product".

Great topic Brooklynella.

That's really cool, thanks. I hope the word spreads around.

If you do, you should know that the wetlands of LA, MS and Fl are being clear cut so people can mulch their gardens (And use in their reptile enclosures).
My Mom and Dad are visiting for Christmas and I caught an article in Mom's People magazine that explained how one conservation group gave Walmart Execs a tour of LA wetlands so they can see the impact Cypress trees have on the environment. Walmart is currently considering no longer selling it in their stores and an invite to Lowes and Home Depot Execs is pending. I had no idea this was happening until I read the article in People. I was not able to find this article online but I'm not exactly an internet search expert!:)

I love eco-earth as safe and snakes seem to like it. I use the bricks .

Where do you buy the loose stuff?.

I have only found the bricks which arent bad but with so much humidity they take while to dry in my patio .Would like to try loose bags.

I use coco husk and coco fiber depending on the animal. They sell 9 pound bricks of the husk for $7 @ Canadian Tire and it's identical to the exo terra stuff you get at petstores.

Wow I had no idea! Now I have to find something else to use for my Tegu though... But im glad I found this thread I will definatly be spreading this around

I get the loose stuff at petco for $11 a bag. 1 bag is enough to cover a 75 gal tank with an inch to an inch and a half of substrate. Its a little more expensive than the bricks, but much drier and ALOT easier.

Anywhere besides the pet shop to get the coconut fibre? I've used it before and liked it but for the price I ended up sticking with mulch...of course I'm not currently herping but I'd like to know, because I know I'll be back into herping eventually (I can never stay away LOL).
