Awesome for gigantor!! It will be so cool to see him grow you gotta keep us updated :) yeah that's alot of babys to find homes for maybe you can set something up with some local pet stores

MORE EGGS! They won't stop!

also some of my fry are starting to randomly die off.. 1 or 2 a day....nothing in the routine has changed other than the addition of blood worms as a food source...idk how that would affect anything.

6 weeks!

They gettin biiiig.

However they are starting to drop like flies..i don't understand why... losing 3+ per day.

I thought they would become MORE stable as they got bigger. All the water parameters are normal. I even splurged and bought a Fluval Nano internal filter because i thought maybe the sponge filter was contributing to deaths...but idk.. i need to figure it out quickly or they're all gonna KO :(

Hmm strange behavior in the mother tank! a pair had a 2day old batch of eggs. i was cleaning the tank..being very careful not to disturb the eggs (which are hatching as we speak) out of no where the mom smashes into the gravel over and over where the eggs were.. sending them flying all over the tank.

why?! it was like she went into self destruct mode...wanting to kill the babies before anything could happen to them.

anyway. just finished cleaning and now i have thousands of hatching piranha eggs floating around the tank.

Wow they are growing like weeds. Maybe they just need more room?I don't know it's weird. you would think they Would be safer the bigger they got. How is gigantor?

I looked around online a little and it seems like most people lose them from lack of nutrition, water quality and space.one guy said he kept losing them in a 20 gal and moved them to a 40br and didn't have any more probs

That was my thought too. when they were little and delicate i hardly lost any..now that they're big n hearty i can't look away for 5mins without one KOing. frustrating.

but thank you so much for the time you took to help me look for an answer.

my water quality isnt 100% perfect but its definitely live able and has been the same since day 1. I feed them generous amounts 3times a day, so i would rule out nutrition aswell.
i guess ill grab my extra 55 n set it up tomorrow n see how that goes. i wanted to wait til they were around 2months because i run a much bigger filter on it.

ill update when i get it all set! thanks a lot!

oh p.s. gigantor is still dwarfing e veryone...its weird because i watch them eat atleast once a day n have yet to see him take a bite....so he MUST be sneak attacking the other babies at night. it doesn't bother me SO much if i lose them to cannibalism as that atleast translates into bigger healthier fish...but it bothers me when they just die off and i find em floating...such a waste :(

I'm not an expert by any means, but what are you thinking going into the tank with hatching fry? You think she'd just watch you clean the gravel? You're threatening her, please don't do that again bro!!!

^My 6yr old son has been wanting a tank in his room. We were gonna get him a 15gallon 'glo-tank' to learn with but maybe we'll skip that and ill set up the 55gallon n put "gigantor" n a few others in to grow out :)

Anyway, just cleaned my main tank... the wigglers in there were starting to expire so i vacced about 300live ones out n put em in with my 5week old fry. There's probably 100left..they went crazy for em. I wish i could grow them all out but id never find homes for thousands and thousands of RBP.

Are you feeding new fry to older fry? Why? I wish I could take some to grow out, here's how I Raise fry: http://youtu.be/o1_mHIr-91Y
