I had done that before and there is no pollute water since I got a strong filter, and I don't dump a bunch of meat in my pond! the fat can be prevent by rinse the meat with warm water and increase water current in the pond, you can also give them some feeder fish to make them exercise!

i gotta start being more discerning as to which posts i reply to.

ground beef = horrible idea for feeding gars or fishes in general. it is fatty and can quickly pollute the water. generally better to avoid most store-available terrestrial proteins for gars. go with frozen fish/shrimp or pellets.--

I don't think that he understands the fact that gars and other fish in general have trouble digesting most store-available terrestrial proteins, and that these foods aren't the healthiest choice for them as a result. :screwy:

HungDang, those foods, along with feeder fish, shouldn't make up the majority (or any part, if possible) of a captive adult gar's diet; feeder fish are fine for smaller gars that have yet to accept alternative food options, though.

I do know that! I only suggest that he can get cheap food by that way, I didn't say that he have to feed them with only meat! I would never do that! I don't have much fish now, but 2.5 year ago when I was in VietNam, I have lots of fish. I feed them with a lot of thing like meat, shrimp (small tiny shimps only about $1 per 1 kg in Vietnam), vegetable, pellet, ...! I mix vegetable with meat and feed them, so they can get enough vitamin they need !

It is pretty fun. Few more days here than off to Columbia. Axtually going diving at a wreck tomorrow thats supposed to have 2m long nurse sharks

Ah, okay. Just sounded like you were suggesting that he should feed them mainly meat rather than pellets and/or seafood. I don't know if the vegetables are necessary for gar considering that they are carnivorous therefore they can survive and thrive on fish, shrimp, etc. for food

have fun, and don't forget to tell the shark this: "my gator gar will be bigger than you, he he he!"
