Does anybody actually

Seems like alot of people are "Shoot first and ask questions later" types. I research for a while before buying something, unless I already know what it is.

Not being nasty or whatever. But does any body on this site actually do research from books, internet websites etc before getting an animal. looks like all you do is ask a few questinos on the most basic requirments then go out and get the animal.

Some people do that. Most of the regulars on this site are very informed and very intelligent. There are a lot of bad apples, like any forum. I tend to get basic info before buying and then get member advice after buying. These things include: best brands of food to buy, what additional tank mates I could get, what diseases the fish might be particularily susceptible to.

A little research is never a bad thing. To answer your question, in some cases you are right and in others you are wrong.

What is a book?
If you cant find it online it cant be found:)

Is it just me or isnt asking questions and getting solid information from those who have the experience prior to a purchase a form of research?

You sir are spot on

Its alot easier to sit on the computer and ask someone else who already knows it than to go drive and buy a book and read it.

The main reason I frequent this site is because of the amount of knowledge contained within the members. Sure, there's a lot of newbies out there, but you know the tools at Petco sure as hell aren't going to help them. That's where we come in. We've all made mistakes. This forum is here to help correct those mistakes and, more importantly, PREVENT future mistakes. I fully admit to having no idea what I was getting into and jumping in with both feet before I did any research. I bought a 29g to start with and had a tard at Petco sell me 3 Tiger Oscars and a JD to go in it. His bad for not knowing his craft? Sure, but it was moreso MY bad for not doing the research. Then (thank GOD) I stumbled upon this board and my LFS. Luckily I have fixed the situation. I can't look down my nose at others who have erred in their fish keeping, cuz guess what? I did the same thing.
