everything ive kept for life up until now have been fish with <5 year lifespans, but i do intend on keeping everything i currently have until they die

I had my Oscar for about 14 years. He lived thru moves, small tanks, bad choices for tankmates.......everything.

I was 26 when he died and actually got teary eyed! He really was a pet.

WOW!!! post some pics:)

Haven't been in the hobby long enough, plan on keeping my indos and delhezis for life.

my hubby already told ya about his piranha and his midas cichlid, both of which i met towards the end of their lives.

i had fish when i was young, we had small community tanks with fish that never lasted more than a few years, but they lived their entire lives with us. And we had koi that some of my family members still have along with their offspring.

and i fully intend.. in fact, i'm currently setting up a 240 gal tank to make sure that i have no trouble keeping the fish i have now through their entire life.

if the stories i hear about arowanas are true, my oldest grandson may inherit Pinky. But when i buy or raise an animal.. doesn't matter if it's a fish, a snake, a bird or a dog they are generally here for life, i don't throw away family members.

i always want more, and don't have the space that i neeed, so i try it anyway, and sometimes it works. most of the time its bad. the love of the hobby kills the fish. irony sucks.
I have though "raised" Them to old age. My first blue cray ;live to a great 7" (but an aggressive zebra cichlid, also contributed). My electric catfish, was suppsedly at the store for 10 years, and no one bought it, or they always brought it back (I got it for $10 because of this, was $50). I had him for a little over 1 awsome year, then he died. And my mom has raised agels from life to death, dime sized, to six inches, since before i can remmember.

P.S. I still Have my first fish:D ( an unidentified short bodied synodontis, and an unkillable 6" striped rapheal

Ive kept smaller fish till ripe old age.now my oscar plecos and some cats are staying with me for life.Mbuna I trade like pokemon but some of the bigger fish are permanent
