Just started back in the hobby 3 years ago, still have one of the first two fish i purchased. A 1.5 inch, Albino Tiger Oscar, plan on keeping him until old age settles in. Now he's 9-10 inches long. Would love to keep my 2 parachromis for life, my livistonii, and my Red Devil.

There needs to be a I've only been in the hobby for a short time (like under 3 years or something) option.

Of course if any fish I've had has a life span of less then three years then I'd of had the chance......

But I guess I don't have any of the fish I originally started with so my answer would be no anyway.

Okay I choose I have one I plan on keeping.

yes i agree

I've only been in the hobby for like 4-5 years tops

and the longest fish ive ever kept was this red devil i had but i had to get rid of hom because he was to cramped in my 55 that i hade and my parents kept complaining that he was too aggressive so i was forced to get rid of him:cry:

im still young and im still newbie i have a lot to learn about...im started last year , got my fat gar he/she is one year on me....!

I keep them all for life except the off spring.
I restarted this hobby 8 years ago after a 2 year break when I moved house twice in 2 years .
The fish in my Avatar is 8 yrs old also I have 2 Green severums a Featherfin Synodontis and a Polypterus Delhezi the same age all the first fish I bought when I started again with a 4 ft tank.
PS I now have 30 tanks. 27 in my fish house and 3 in my home as do not intend to move again..EVER.:headbang2

I have had my devil pair for over 4 years and they are my favorite i will always keep them however i have had my jags for 4 years as well but i have fallen out of love with them and would sell them if a proper home was found i think that keeping a fish for life is the right thing to do however human life takes priority to much bs can happen and few us have had the pleasure of keeping them for life u got to have multiple tanks back up plans and a genorater and needed every peice of equipment i have just to get them to 4 years it's not easy but i love it anyway and i know u guys do 2.

I hope i can keep my devil and parrots forever.

I do , but its a small percentage of my fish . I do keep majority of my fish for years before selling/trading them off.

Reasons why i dont keep them for life ? I get bored and need a change , that or they get too big for my tank. And i get the occasional deaths.

Its not bad to not keep a fish for life , right ? ;)

Let me know the next time you sell anything! :naughty:

I had a goldfish when I was young. Won him at the carnival, and kept him for like 5 years.

I've kept lots of cichlids for over 10 years, my last old sevrum died at 14 yrs old this week.
I dont trade out much cause I'm so picky as to what goes in. I get the occasional hard case who has to go, but most of them never see a plastic bag or net again.
