Don't get me wrong, I love trading fish with my friends or with a LFS but when it comes to selling them to random people I really dislike it.. Every time I've had to sell my fish (or snails when I was breeding apples) I always get complete idiots and I feel like I'm running an interrogation when I ask about their setups..

Right now I'm having to downsize my tanks (already have 11 dogs, only 4 are staying though since the others are fosters and 6 cats, so its way too much) since the baby is almost here and I won't have time for the 4 tanks we have running, so having to take down the 55g's and only keep the 29 and 20.

Plus it seems everyone (except maybe 3) who has contacted me about the tropical fish I'm selling give me the same story about how it's for their son/daughter and they want to "surprise" them. One for their birthday, one for graduation and one before they get home from a trip.. I'm not going to say their lying but really. I'm selling the the fish for a set price but since I wasn't sure how fast I could rehome them and need to rehome asap, put in the ad if they can prove to me they know what they're doing/show me their setup, then I'll reduce the price since I just want them to have good homes. Guess I won't add that next time..

I usually just give fish away to my friends that I know are serious about taking care of them.

Stop with the interrogations...you're not the Gestapo/CIA/FBI. If the buyer is willing to pay your asking price...then just sell the fish. If you're REALLY concerned that the fish going to a good home...jack up the price. This should help eliminate at lot of the amateurs!:)

Even folks who give you all the right answers to your questions...could still be smart enough to lie to you & give you the answers they know that you're looking for.

No guarantees fish will always go to good homes...other than not to sell the fish.;)

It would be nice if I had friends who were into the hobby and that I could give fish to.

They might not go to a great home but I want them to go somewhere they'll at least have a chance. These are fish I've had for a long time and don't want to just hand over to someone who has no idea what they're doing so they die but I know what you mean.
