My Stingray has been eating 2 huge Earthworms every morning for the past few days. I got them at Wal-Mart in the fishing/Tackle section. They are labeled "20 Canadian Nightcrawlers" They are $3 for 20. I figured its an ok deal and bought 5 cups full. My stingray is looking like a fat little Buddah on these. anyone else feed them to their Ray?? Are there cheaper options out there (besides digging up your backyard ect..)

yes lots of people feed their rays these but you need to switch him onto something else as in some places they wont sell them year round. so you will either need to find a worm ranch or you could switch them onto something else.

you can usually find good deals on tilapia and cut it up. also mp but it usually turns out to cost more. massivore is also nice and basically a combination of a little bit of everything to give the rays some variety.

Thanks,

I was worried that walmart would stop selling them as the winter comes here in NY. Does anyone know how long worms can live in those little cups? what if i say bought like 30 cups or so to last the winter?

that depends on how cold you keep the fridge. i know mine was too cold and i would buy 6 cups at a time and end up loosing half before i got to use them cause of the cold. so i lowered the temp and now they will last a few weeks easy.

but you can find a worm farm or worm ranch or bait store. the worm farms and ranches grow year round. just do a little research and call around.

Not very long. You'll have earthworm pudding in no time.

If the worms are European Nightcrawlers, which I suspect they are, you can set up a vermicomposting bin relatively easy. A big rubbermaid container with holes drilled on the bottom (for drainage) and lid (for air), with a peat/soil/shredded newspaper base works fine. Feed them kitchen scraps and they live quite a while. A cheaper alternative to buying at Walmart, though, may be to find yourself a good wormfarm and stock up this way.

Either way, earthworms are a pain in the ass and are better left as a treat than a staple. Switch to MP and massivore. Squid works well, too, and is less messy than MP.

YIKES Worm Pudding does not sound fun. How long will they last do you think. My Fridge is definitely colder than wal marts fridge.

Thanks, I will try these out.

Anyone out there know how lone these 90 or so worms I have left will last???

If i feed 3 a day that will be 30 days. Can I salvage them before i have worm pudding??? maybe i should start eating a couple a day too?

I have fed my rays these now for 3+ years my 2 retics go through a cup of them every week or so plus market shrimp, massivore, and anything else I throw in. I have kept them in my fridge for a good 3-4 weeks without any issues. I live in the cold northwest and have never had any issues of walmart not carrying these even through the winter.

Yep... I'm buying very often earthworm in Walmart. They are very big ;)
