How long will it be until the 100 gallon arrives? Once you get that I would but the JD in there with the Pacu's. How long have they been together? I got a baby JD a couple weeks ago and he to spends most of his time hiding but he does come out to eat. Once way you can make sure that food gets to him you could go to the store and get a turkey baster then just find were he is and squirt some food down there for him. As far as if the pacu's will grow once in a bigger tank I would imagine they will some but I doubt they will ever get to there full potential. I wish you luck and hope you can find homes for the remaining pacu

I see how my post could be confusing mshill90, sorry let me explain... My son is 30 so he does not live with me. He was told they were pirahnas and would not get very big. He had no idea what he had or how big they would get. He had them for a couple of years and no longer wanted them because they are now about 6" long (I originally posted 7" but I don't think they are quite that big). He gave them to me and I am working hard to rehome them. So far I have found homes for 2 and we are going to pick up a 100gal tank to give the rest more room till I can find homes for them. For the record I would NEVER have bought 9 Pacu, I am not that stupid and I know how big they get. We had one that died not long ago that was 10" and that was very small for a Pacu. I have no intentions of keeping them, only rehoming them. Hope that makes more sense...

If I was closer I would take one.. I have an indoor 1500 gallon tank.
Holds koi right now, but not for long. I've been thinking RAYS!

You know as I stated in my post, we did not go out and buy all these Pacu.
We are NOT stupid! For the record I have contacted Steinharts Aquarium, Seaside Aquarium, Newport Aquarium, Portland Zoo, every fish store in Oregon and some in California, a Pacu site dedicated to Pacu, AND posted an add on CL. No it's not "rocket science"! We are desperately trying to save these gentle fish. I have had several of you say to just euthanize these fish (in my opinion, you shouldn't even be on this site if that's your only answer). These fish are so gentle I could pet them if I wanted to. I thought this was a fish lovers site, obviously I was wrong... For the record we have a 100 gal tank on the way to house them until we can find homes for them. I've found a home for 2 so far, just an fyi, not that any of you care. I have no doubt that I will get negative responses because that seems to be what this site is about... BTW if all you are going to do is send me nasty replies for trying to do something good please save your time and mine...

Don't get too upset by the members here, i think a lot of us here have our bad days, and lately i've noticed a lot of members having bad days...

Either way, best of luck rehoming the fish and don't get put off the site too quickly, especially since i'm sure you can understand there are a lot of new comers here that ask for advice and when its given it drops on deaf ears (or in this case blind eyes?)...

Sould have the new tank in the next couple weeks. I love our JD he is incredible! I'm thinking of just moving the Pacu to the new tank and leaving Jack in the 50 gal and getting him some buddies. Jack has only been with these guys for a little over a week. His tank mate for the last 3 years was a 10' pacu that unfortunately died a the day before the little Pacu came to us. He had no problem being with the larger Pacu and was even the "boss" of the tank (he even ate first). I think the issue now is because there are so many Pacu that, even though he's bigger than them, he gets intimidated by there quick movements at meal time. He stays out all day with them until I feed... The Pacu we have are actually very docile, they go after the food eagerly but not aggressively.

Thank you, I wasn't going to get back on here but I love fish so much and I enjoy reading some of the posts. I'll stick it out for a while I just can't stand people that think they know everything but don't care to get all the facts because they're to busy being a judgemental know it all... I understand why people said some of the stuff they said because, well, it is totally CRAZY to have 9 Pacu! However nobody was taking into account that I had no intention of keeping all of them. As I said I am NOT stupid. I just want to give these "gentle giants" (that's what I call them ) a chance. If it came to letting them suffer or euthinizing them I would do the right thing but only if there was no other alternative...

^ No worries... good to see you came back... also, there are a lot of very helpful members on these boards that have got many years of fish keeping knowledge who are always willing to help so try not to let a few people get on your nerves too much...

I wish you were closer too, these little guys are awesome. They are very active but not aggressive at all, eager at feeding time but otherwise docile. They rub up against my arm when I'm cleaning the tank and follow me whenever I walk by the tank... They're great fish and I hope I can find them good homes for these "gentle giants", as I call them.

1500 gallon tank WOW!! Now THAT is impressive! I'm almost jealous but with a family of 7, 4 (soon to be 5) active tanks, 3 dogs, 2 horses and a cat, I think we're good for now. How ever RAYS would be awesome, maybe someday.

Thanx to everyone who answered my question about my dempsey, I was pretty sure that's what he was, wich is why I named him JACK along time ago... Now I have a new issue... Jack had a 10" Pacu (Bob, our daughter named him Spongebob... Lol) for a tankmate for years, well sad to say Bob died a few days ago. We decided to move Jack, who is 8+" into our Pacu tank with 9 smaller 7" Pacu. Problem is now he hides in his log at mealtime...he comes out and swims around with the Pacu until I feed, then it's back into his log... Jack is my favorite of all our fish and I don't want to lose him. Will he starve or will he eventually come out to eat? We plan on moving him to a new Cichlid tank asap but it won't be for a while. Thanx

Should be getting the 100 gal on the 19th for the pacu...however "Jack" still won't stay out to eat when I feed! He still looks healthy but how long can he go without eating???

Just an update... Jack is fine, healthy as can be and at about 9" now. He has his own 50gal tank now and seems very happy!
