Does drop eye make you love your arowana less?

I don't get why some think DE is caused by looking down. It makes absolutely no sense at all.

it makes perfect sense. i mean aros never look down in the wild! only once you put them into a tank do they ever look down. they see their reflection and then the other fish in the tank. your crazy if you can't see that.

then again they do seem to be a jumpy fish and seem to get DE after jumping into things. maybe that's it. impact to a fragile targeting system seems to cause the system to malfunction.

so in the wild would aros get UE up eye from never looking down?. Looking down i feel has nothing to do with DE. In the wild I would find it hard for the aros to not be looking down at the fish below. I know they feed off the top mostly. But aros are very curious fish and i doubt they never chase fish at the bottom.

The cause of two sides DE can still be debated but one side DE? That's a mystery..

what you have never seen one sided de? i have a tank full of it. jumping aros in the dark= de.

in case anyone didn't catch the sarcasm in the looking down post i was being sarcastic. i know it doesn't come from looking down.

As a matter of fact, I have.. Else why would I ask in the first place.. I just don't understand why one side instead of both..

i couldn't tell if you had or hadn't from the post. the reason i believe it is on one side is the side affected gets the brunt of the impact. when fish jump/breach they go to one side. this side hits the top of the tank the hardest. thus it will show the results of the impact while the other side doesn't. my aros have demonstraited this over and over again. one aro jump to the hardwood floor during a move. the side that hit first dot DE immediately. while the other side that didn't hit remained untouched. look at other aros as they feed. if they roll it will put the DE side up. all my aros do this. i think it is like how people are right or left handed. they have a preferred side to roll on to feed. this is the side that will get DE after a jump. these are my observations from all my aros past and present. and all my observations of fish in general. my clown knife would always breech to the left. it would invert itself to complete this.

Thanks for the detailed explanation.. Just a thought, if it's an injury, it should heal, right?

Mine has it in one eye and not in the other, so he looks perfect when he's swimming to the left! I wish he was perfect, but I'll take care of him either way.

Are silvers really the only ones that get it?

No, all arowanas can get DE but silvers are more prone to it..
