Does Everybody use heaters?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
when i first set up my 45 I didn't have one for about a week because I had one of those external thermometers reading about a 75-76 degree F temperature, it was cold for a couple nights and my girlfriend left the window open and the water dropped to about 70, so i went ahead and got one just in case. Fortunately the marineland heaters were on sale and i got mine for $27 instead of about $40 :D

I didn't use them this summer because it was so hot in our house and the thermometers were reading around 78. As soon as it cooled off I turned them back on though.

Nope.. But we keep our house a balmy 76-80 in the winter. Always kept my room warm/hot so rarely used heaters.

Ditto.

Depends on the fish...a lot of new world, especially Central American, cichlids do well in the low 70s or even lower.

I heat my fishroom (with a space heater) and only individually heat tanks that have fish that need it...

I couldnt stand 80degrees in my house! The heat in my house is set to 60 degrees. Without heaters my CA and Flowerhorns wouldnt last very long in 55 degree waters. I always been 1 to change the heat with the season. Fish grow faster and are much more territorial in the summer, 82 degrees. Winter I keep it about 75 and they dont eat as much and are less active.
So temp does have a lot to do with seasonal changes in the fishs behavior.

I use heaters in my house as I prefer the cold so my house stays around 60 degrees Fahrenheit. We have had some harsh winters recently in NJ so I definitely need them.
