Yeah my african tank is crowded and it certainly reduced aggression from when it wasn't , the fish would all seem to pick on one fish at a time till they killed it but now they dont focus on certain fish they all seem to just chase each other now and then .
But as stated above i found it doesn't work at all with S.A tanks , Oscars and such will get more aggressive
there are so many pros and cons to this debate. I only have a 125 that I am thing about doing this in. Maybe if I can find 3-6 large cichlids that I can afford at the same time I will give it a shot. Just see what happens. But I am going to have a cpl of spare tanks just incase someone gets owned and doesnt die.
I have had instances where 1 bully fish does his harassment this way: The bully would pick one fish (usually the low man on the totem pole) and chase and harass it until he either killed it or you removed the beaten fish. Then the bully moved on the the next lowest fish on the list, and so on. Eventually, the bully would be the only fish in the tank.
This happened to me because the bully fish was my favorite, and I wanted to keep him in that tank setup. In situations like this, I realized that the only thing to do was remove the bully, not the other way around.
Just IME. Be advised, it could happen. Some fish are smart and sneaky this way.
Perhaps I would have had better luck with a lot more tank mates like Repair did ???
Good luck. I would like to know how it works out for you.
Do you have any oxygenating accessories? whats your opinion on them? are they necessary? I have a long air stone and I'm debating removing it, because the blue shows right through and the pump, under any circumstance, is louder than the filters.
