Does shrimp provide enough nutrition for an arowana?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
as smartlove_518 said varying the diet is the key..any aro would readily take to crickets and worms..i feed mine shrimp, gut loaded crickets, gut loaded feeder fish that has been quarantined for a week(twice a month) and beef heart thrice a month..i even sometimes crush half a tab of vitamins and garlic and soak the shrimp for 15min in it..seems to do good..

Tiffany.. hey.. :) shrimp/prawns are high in cholesterol.. depends really what you want to feed your aro in the end.. like a lot of others have suggested.. a varied diet is the best.. but also keep in mind what you can provide for in the long run on regular basis.. availability and money sense.. these are some of the options (well i use them) hikari food sticks, prawn(market or frozen), crickets, mullet, anchovies, tilapia, squid... and feeders are a strict no. unless you breed them yourself.

I feed him frozen market shrimp.

Get some high quality pellets and ground them into a coarse powder. Take the pieces of market shrimp and roll them in the pellet particles, try to get the particles to embed into the shrimp. After doing this for awhile your aro should acquire a taste for the pellets. You should also try feeding live crickets and freeze dried shrimp but only once a week for now. The only way to get your aro to eat a varied diet, will be to train it to do so.

^^^^ agreed, mix pellets into prawns, or you can try training it to eat pellets!
How big is your aro?
I remember when I got my hbrtg he started off with crickets and wouldn't take worms but after starving for 1 day he was more than happy to take worms!

Hey guys,
My arowwana passed away this morning. R.I.P
I don't know what happened, I checked the water parameters and they were perfect. The tank was clean and the water was at 80 degrees f. Yesterday night he was very active and ate a few pieces of shrimp like he did every night. I just don't know what happened. He had been living in that tank for 3 weeks now and never showed any signs of dying. I'm really depressed.
